Mushroom Identification workshops in Curry County
Orford, OR – Southwestern Oregon Community College is
hosting Mushroom Identification workshops in Brookings and Port Orford.
The workshops are scheduled to meet November 17 and 18 in Brookings and November 18 and 19 in Port Orford. The class will be taught by mycologist Bob Burch.
identification of local edible and non-edible species—as well as
favorable locations, preparation, and preservation methods—will
be covered during the evening lecture. The group will participate in a
field trip the next day to hunt for wild mushrooms. After the field
trip, students will have an opportunity to taste the mushrooms.
Registered students may bring mushrooms to the class for identification.
Brookings class is scheduled to begin with a lecture from 6:00 to 9:00
p.m. on Friday, November 17 at Southwestern’s Curry Campus,
followed by a field trip from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday,
November 18. The Brookings field trip is under a Special Use Permit
with the Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest.
Port Orford class will begin with a lecture from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. on
Saturday, November 18 at the Port Orford City Hall in the Council
Chambers, followed by a field trip from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on
Sunday, November 19.

Langlois Public Library Events
A representative from South Coast Business Employment Corporation (SCBEC)/WORKSOURCE Oregon will be available the third Tuesday of every month at
the Langlois Library. Job Seekers and business representatives
are encouraged to stop by to discuss available
services. Classroom training and On-the-Job Training
programs are available for eligible individuals. SCBEC currently
provides Certified Nurses Assistance training at the Coos Bay Corporate
Headquarters. Appointments may be made by calling Mo Aakre at 541
and Learn Story Time at the Langlois Public Library selected Fridays 11
am to 12:30 pm. The Langlois Public Library is partnering with
Kaleidoscope Play & Learn to bring an interactive story time to you
and your child (0-5 years). We’ll be telling stories, doing

Interesting Langlois Presents: Helen Picca, author of The Last Frontier of the Fading West, November 29th at 6pm at
the Langlois Public Library. The Last Frontier of the Fading West is a
work of historical fiction. October 1942. A tanker is torpedoed off the
coast of Port Orford. Thus begins a story rich in history, of love and
life by the sea. Helen Picca is a former Marketing Executive from NYC
and holds a BA in English from Marymount College, where she learned to
love the written word. She visited Port Orford, OR, several years ago
quite by accident, and fell in love with the place. Since that fateful
day, she has been living there and enjoying the many wonders of the
HOLIDAY CRAFT FAIR IN LANGLOIS
the season with a visit to the 22nd Annual Holiday Craft Fair at the
Lions Hall on Floras Loop Road just south of Langlois. The Fair will be held on Friday and Saturday, November 17th and 18th from 9:00 a.m. to 4 p.m.and is sponsored by the Langlois Lions and the Friends of the Langlois Library.

Community Health Center will be providing Health Insurance Marketplace
assistance at Langlois Library on December 7, 2017 from 3pm-6pm. Our
Certified Assister will be able to complete new and renewal
applications through the Marketplace and answer any questions. This
service is free, confidential and open to all. For any questions,
