Free Contra Dance at Sixes Grange

On Saturday evening, April 21st, the South Coast Folk Society will host a free Contra Dance at the Sixes Grange Hall.  All are welcome to this public event, which features live music by the South Coast Outstanding Open Band, and great calling by Stacey Rose of North Bend.  This exciting evening of dance will start at 7:00PM with an introductory lesson followed by hours of called dancing until 10PM.  Contra Dancing is a light-hearted form of social dancing that is easy to learn and fun for all ages.  Singles, couples and families will enjoy contra dancing, and new dancers are always welcome.

Live music will be provided by the Outstanding Open Band, a popular band made up of talented musicians from Coos and Curry Counties.  The Outstanding Open Band play a lively mix of Celtic, old timey, and modern contra tunes.  These musicians, under the leadership of Sharon Rogers, have provided Coos and Curry counties with lively and vibrant contra dance music for many years.

The very personable and highly experienced caller, Stacey Rose, will guide the dancers throughout the evening.  She will teach all the steps and patterns that you need to know. Stacey has called dances all over Oregon for the last 20 years and is planning an evening full of exiting new dances appropriate for all skill levels.  Wear your dancing shoes, casual clothes and a big smile.

During intermission there will be a performance by the South Coast Folk Society Morris Dancers.

This event is alcohol and fragrance free.  Refreshments are available.  Doors open at 6:45PM.

This event is funded by The Curry County Cultural Coalition and The Oregon Cultural Trust. For more information call 541-332-9295 or 541-348-2174 or visit www.southcoastfolksociety.com.
